Nigerians have hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for
directing all ministers vying for any elective office in 2023 to resign before
Monday 16th of May.
The directive was to cabinet members during the meeting of
the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said
he did not have the mandate to talk about the fate of other political
appointees who are also vying for elective positions but are not members of the
cabinet.
Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Emeka Nwajiuba, Chris Ngige,
Abubakar Malami and Timipre Sylva are the affected ministers.
The directive by Buhari has stirred reactions from Nigerians
on social media
However, some called for the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele,
and Senate President Ahmed Lawan to also resign.
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter;

2015, hope Godwin Emefiele CBN Governor will take a queue.”

political office holders?
@AboladeOlaniran “Amaechi and Ngige and all of them wey no
they can’t have the party ticket. They should better go and withdraw their
partynomination form and tell the world they’re catching cruise.”

to the nation.”

political ambition. Most of them would prefer to quit their ambition. Let watch
out.”
@Teresematt “Let me prepare my CV and apply for the position
of Transportation Minister.”
@Ujaymycine “Please tell @MBuhari that I am available for
appointment. Even if it’s one year. I am a programmer, Critical Thinker and a
political heavyweight.”
@Chrisneche12 “Yes let them resign if youwant to contest for
any position, you can’t serve two masters at the same time.”
@Opeyemifolarin1 “Osinbajo should be ordered to resign too.
Anything short of this, the status quo should remain.”
@Bemexy “Both senate president and CBN governor. It’s
shouldn’t end with word of mouth, an enforcement should be applied as well
immediately.”
