Five civilians have been confirmed killed after a raid on
Amangwu in Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia State, southeastern Nigeria.
Residents blame Nigerian soldiers for carrying out the
attack which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Several houses were set ablaze and properties destroyed in
the community as many residents fled.
A resident said the soldiers invaded the village with four
Hilux pickup trucks and sophisticated weapons.
“They fired sporadically,” said the local who also revealed
that some people had been shot.
No statement is released by government authorities on the
incident, but a security source said the raid was aimed at arresting members of
the community believed to be involved in Biafra separatist
