The Kremlin has dismissed a report by The Washington Post
alleging that former U.S. President and current president-elect Donald Trump
spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Thursday, urging him
not to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump had
reached out to Putin, cautioning him against actions that could intensify the
ongoing tensions in Ukraine.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters
on Monday that the report was “completely false information,” denying that any
such call took place.
This claim comes amid heightened international scrutiny as
global leaders closely monitor the conflict in Ukraine, with fears of potential
escalations impacting diplomatic and geopolitical relations.
The alleged call, had it occurred, would have marked rare
direct communication between Trump and Putin since Trump’s re-election bid.
