The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Umar
Yusuf has appealed to the State Commissioner of Police and other security
agencies to provide armed officers to guard the Assembly Complex.
The Speaker made the appeal during plenary on Wednesday.
He directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the
request to the appropriate authorities for immediate action.
“In view of recent security challenges in our country and
also our dear state, it is important that we beef up security here at the
Assembly Complex before, during and after sittings.
“The officers here in Kogi Assembly are not armed, and this
calls for concern. If they cannot provide the Assembly with armed Police
officers, during and after sittings, they should be withdrawn,” he stated.
The House in a voice vote supported the Speaker’s motion.
