The Anambra State Police Command has rescued the victims
abducted after a United States Embassy convoy was ambushed.
Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu made the
announcement in an update issued Friday morning.
“In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, joint security
forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted.
“Operations are still ongoing and further details shall be
communicated,” the spokesperson added.
The motorcade was attacked on May 16 along Atani/Osamela
road in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.
The U.S. delegation, including Nigerian and American
officials, were on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in Ogbaru LGA.
The police said nine persons died and put the blame on
members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/Indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB).
Their names are Jefferson Obayuwane (retired DSS personnel),
Sunday Prince Ubong, Ekene Nweke, Hassan Etila, Avwuvie Kaye.
Others who lost their lives were four policemen: Bukar A.
Kabuiki, Emmanuel Lukpata, Friday Morgan and Adamu Andrew
The police confirmed that the remains of the deceased
persons were all recovered and deposited in a morgue.
