The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate,
Atiku Abubakar has clarified his remark of handing over federal universities to
State governments if elected president in 2023.
Atiku explained that he would not hand over federal
universities to States.
In a statement by his media aide, Paul Ibe on Monday night,
Atiku assured that education is on his concurrent list.
The PDP presidential candidate said his remark on education
at the 62nd annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, was
misquoted.
According to the former Vice President, the remark credited
to him was false and doesn’t reflect his position on education.
The Waziri of Adamawa stressed that the reports are
misleading because it wasn’t a reflection of what transpired during the NBA
conference.
Atiku said he was referring to his plans to devolve power to
the federating units and not education.
He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku did not say that
he will hand over federal universities to State governments if he is elected
president come February next year.
“The report is false, untrue, unfounded and not a true
reflection of what Atiku Abubakar said while responding to a question on
devolution of powers, a key component of his policy framework.”
