The United States of America’s Secretary of Defense, Lloyd
Austin has warned that “any rhetoric about the employment of nuclear weapons by
Russia is dangerous and must be avoided at all cost.
Austin said this when he was asked by NBC if he has seen any
actions backing up President Vladimir Putin’s recent threat to unleash nuclear
weapons if the need arises.
“Any rhetoric about the employment of nuclear weapons is
dangerous, and I think we should avoid that if at all possible,” Austin told
NBC on Wednesday.
Recall that Putin over the weekend placed his strategic
forces, including nuclear weapons, on a heightened state of alert.
Austin, however, said he is “comfortable” with the United
State’s ability not only to protect itself, but also to protect its allies,
adding “I’m confident that we can defend not only ourselves, but our allies and
partners.”
The Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its 8th day today,
with a large number of casualties already recorded.
