Shehu Sani, former Kaduna lawmaker, says the reputation of Nigerians is at stake following the cases involving ex-Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

DAILY POST had reported that Ekweremadu and the wife were arraigned before a UK court on Thursday over alleged organ trafficking. The court denied them bail and adjourned the matter to July 7.

Sani took to his Twitter page appealing to the court of public opinion to be patient with their judgement and keep watch of the UK legal proceedings.

Sani on his Twitter page wrote: “Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu: The court of public opinion should be patient and follow the UK legal proceedings.

“No doubt that is his case, but by virtue of the position he occupied, in a matter like this, the name and reputation of all Nigerians is involved.”

Meanwhile, Daily Mail reported that the couple who appeared before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Thursday, hoped to transplant the victim’s organ to their daughter who suffers from renal failure.

They had that the couple were arrested on Tuesday at the Heathrow Airport as they attempted to board a plane to Turkey where it was suggested that the procedure could take place.

Ekweremadu is said to have had £20,000 on him at the time of his arrest, according to prosecutors.

The couple have been remanded in custody and the case adjourned until July 7.
