Boko Haram |
Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents on Monday night
attacked Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local government in Yobe state.
The attackers set fire on the palace of Dapchi District
head, a source said. He added that the insurgents forced many shops opened and
carted away food and other items.
A resident who spoke with our correspondent via telephone
said the insurgents stormed the town around 6:00pm while residents-majority
Muslim faithfuls were preparing to break their Ramadan fast.
“The insurgents shot sporadically but the shooting later
subsided,” he said.
“But as I speak to you now heavy gunshots were heard from
all angles of the town which I believe to be an encounter between the
insurgents and the troops” He said casualties could not be ascertained because
the attack was ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
On February 19, 2018, one hundred and ten schoolgirls were
kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents from the Government Girls’ Science and
Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi.
All the girls were released in March 2018 except the lone
Christian girl Leah Sharibu.
